How a Small Design Change Became the Perfect Nursery Wallpaper

Pattern for wallpaper and fabric featuring cottagecore ducks and clovers with yellow flowers

Large Cottagecore Ducks and Clover with Yellow Flower

One of my favorite parts of creating patterns for fabric and wallpaper is getting to see where they end up. It is always fun when a design sells, of course, but seeing it actually living in someone’s home is a completely different kind of magic.

A few months ago I received a request from Amanda, who had found my cottagecore duck designs on Spoonflower and reached out with a custom request. She loved the duck wallpaper, but wanted to make a few small changes so the design would better fit the nursery she was creating for her baby.

Amanda asked if I could adjust the design by removing the pink clover flowers so that it would be a better match for the room's color palette and theme. I made the requested changes, uploaded the customized version to Spoonflower, and she ordered the design in pre-pasted wallpaper.

And then, a few weeks later, she sent me photos!

The finished nursery is such a beautiful example of how wallpaper can completely shape the feeling of a room. The soft duck illustrations, clovers, and yellow flowers give the space a gentle storybook feel, while the yellow beadboard, blue chair, woven baskets, bookshelves, and cozy textures make the whole room feel personal and lived-in.

It feels cheerful without being loud. Whimsical without being overly themed. Sweet enough for a nursery, but classic enough to grow with the room for a while.

This is exactly the kind of use I imagine when I create my storybook inspired patterns: rooms that feel warm, layered, playful, and a little bit enchanted.

Customizing a Spoonflower Design

I always encourage shoppers to reach out if they find a design of mine that they love but need a small adjustment. Sometimes a pattern is almost perfect for a room, but the scale needs to be larger, a color needs to shift slightly, or one small element needs to be removed.

I am always happy to make adjustments such as:

  • scale changes

  • small color adjustments

  • removing or changing a minor motif

  • creating a coordinating colorway

For wallpaper especially, those little changes can make a big difference. A nursery, bedroom, bathroom, reading nook, or playroom may already have a color palette in place, and sometimes the right pattern just needs a small nudge to fit beautifully.

About the Storybook Cottagecore Ducks Collection

This wallpaper is part of my Storybook Cottagecore Ducks collection, a group of playful duck, floral, clover, and nature inspired designs created for nurseries, children’s rooms, cottage style spaces, and whimsical home decor projects.

The collection includes hero prints, coordinating florals, smaller scale blenders, and mix and match designs that can be used together across wallpaper, fabric, and home decor.

I especially love this collection for nurseries and children’s spaces because it has that soft, nostalgic feeling without being too babyish. The ducks add charm and humor, while the florals and clovers keep everything feeling fresh, gentle, and nature-inspired.
